A dealer who assumes "sync" means instant is the same dealer who gets surprised when a sale on eBay takes a few minutes to show up elsewhere, or a price change from three tabs ago hasn't gone out yet. Here's what actually happens, and why it isn't the same speed in both directions.

What Good Sync Actually Requires

Getting your own price change onto eBay and getting eBay's information back into your own system are not the same job, and treating them as one job is where most do-it-yourself approaches fall apart.

Pushing a change out is the easier direction. You already know what changed, you have the new value, and there's exactly one listing to update. Pulling changes in is harder: something has to ask eBay what's different since the last check, across every listing on the account, without hitting a rate limit or missing something that changed in between.

eBay's own API reflects that difference. The endpoint that returns your current offers doesn't support simple pagination. It requires querying by SKU, one at a time, with no way to just ask for everything that changed since Tuesday. Anyone building this by hand usually discovers that requirement from an error message that doesn't obviously point at the real problem.

The Real Cadence, in Both Directions

Here's what that looks like on an actual schedule. Pulling from eBay, a full pass across inventory, offers, and orders runs every 15 minutes. Listings created directly on eBay's website instead of through the API get picked up separately, every 6 hours, because that discovery method uses an older API with a strict daily call limit and has to be rationed. That matters more than it sounds: a dealer who's been selling on eBay for years usually has exactly this kind of listing, created before any inventory tool was in the picture, and it needs a different discovery path to be found at all.

Pushing to eBay runs on a different clock. A price cut or a status change in your own system goes out within 5 to 30 seconds, because the system already knows exactly what changed and there's nothing left to discover.

That split cadence is a tradeoff, not an oversight. Checking every listing every few seconds would burn through eBay's rate limits before lunch. Checking once a day would leave too much room for a sale to slip through unnoticed. Fifteen minutes and six hours are where those constraints actually land, not numbers chosen to sound good in a pitch.

Neither number is a promise that nothing is ever stale. A watch that sells on eBay in the first minute of a 15-minute window sits in that gap until the next pull, which is exactly the kind of window that makes cross-channel delisting worth building around instead of hoping the timing works out.

Why the Push Matters More Than the Pull

The pull side gets the attention because 15 minutes sounds like a number worth arguing about. The push side is the one that actually protects you, because it's what keeps eBay from becoming the listing everyone forgot to update after the last price drop.
